PMK to stage protest if GCC went ahead with waste-to-energy project in Perungudi dump yard

PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss on Sunday warned that his party would organise a protest if the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) went ahead with a waste-to-energy project at the Perungudi dump yard.

The GCC has been engaged in preliminary works towards implementing the project, which would affect people living near the Pallikaranai marsh, Mr. Anbumani contended in a statement. If implemented, it would not only affect the people, but also the wildlife in the area, he said.

The implementation of the waste-to-energy project failed in Lucknow, Pune, and Kanpur, among others, Mr. Anbumani said, and pointed out that the classification of garbage into biodegradable waste and recycling were the solution.
