Training session for street food vendors to comply with food safety and quality held in Mysuru

The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has initiated training sessions for street food vendors to comply with food safety and quality by improving hygiene standards.

It is being conducted in association with Nestle Group and the five-day exercise was inaugurated on Friday. MCC Commissioner Ashaad Ur Rahman Shariff said that such training sessions had been periodically conducted and so far, more than 1,000 street food vendors had benefited from it. The exercise would be held in future as well.

Explaining the objectives of the training programme, Mr. Shariff said it was being conducted to help the street food vendors improve their quality as also hygiene standards.

Underlining the importance of ensuring hygiene, Mr. Shariff said this was one sure way of attracting more customers and cited the examples of a few vendors drawing large number of customers because of the quality of food and hygiene standards maintained by them.

The food vendors were also apprised of the importance of not encroaching on pedestrian paths, ensuring that they procured their daily ingredients from reputed wholesale or retail dealers so that there was no compromise on quality. He also underscored the importance of disposal of waste.

The training is being imparted to impress upon the street vendors of complying with food safety and quality as stipulated by the law, said the MCC Commissioner.
