Nine Ayyappa devotees who suffered burns in Hubballi fire likely to get compensation

Home Minister G. Parameshwar has said that the Chief Minister will be requested to release compensation from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to the nine Ayyappa devotees who have suffered severe burns and are being treated at KMC-RI Hospital in Hubballi.

He was speaking to presspersons after visiting Karnataka Medical College and Research Institute (KMC-RI) Hospital and speaking to the doctors and the family members of the injured persons in Hubballi on Tuesday.

The fire mishap occurred at the Shiva Temple at Achhavvana Colony of Sainagar in Hubballi during the early hours of Monday and all injured are being treated for burns in a ward at the KMC-RI Hospital.

Dr. Parameshwar said that among the nine injured, the condition of Prakash Barker is serious as he has suffered 90% burns. “He is being treated with utmost care and instructions have also been issued to the doctors to provide the finest available treatment to the injured,” he said.

The Home Minister said that the Chief Minister will also visit KMC-RI Hospital in the coming days to enquire about the health condition of the injured persons. All efforts will be made to give them the requisite compensation, he said and added that the incident will be inquired into.

Regarding KMC-RI Hospital functioning under an in-charge director, the Home Minister said that steps will be taken to appoint a full-time director soon.

Labour Minister and Dharwad district in-charge Santosh Lad, who accompanied the Home Minister to the hospital, said that KMC-RI Hospital has been doing a good job in providing emergency and advanced healthcare to patients from seven districts of North Karnataka.

It has undergone progressive changes in the recent years, he added.

The Ministers were accompanied by MLA and Chairman of Karnataka Slum Development Board (KSDB) Prasad Abbayya, Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu G.R.J., Police Commissioner N. Shashikumar and other senior officials.
