Four persons were arrested for stealing around 48 sovereigns of gold jewellery from a house at Pudumund in Udhagamandalam.
The incident took place on December 19 when the occupants of the house, M. Palanisami, 50, and his wife, had gone to the temple nearby. Following a complaint to the Nilgiris district police, Superintendent of Police N.S. Nisha formed special teams to investigate the incident.
Sniffer dogs were pressed into service to search for clues and trace the accused. Following a thorough investigation, four persons, identified as E. Abhai Porthi, 19, his parents P. Easwar Singh, 43, and E. Anitha Bhai, 38, and E. Ankith Singh Porthi, 18, were arrested by the police. The four had said to have worked as gardeners on Mr. Palanisami’s property, and had scouted his house prior to the break-in.
