Three labourers working to construct a culvert over a drain were killed and one injured after a concrete slab of the retaining wall of the culvert collapsed on them in Sehore district of Madhya Pradesh on Monday.
According to the police, the incident took place at around 3 p.m. at Siya Gahan village under Shahganj police station limits.
Sehore Additional Superintendent of Police Gitesh Kumar Garg told The Hindu that four labourers were trapped under the debris and one of them was rescued safely.
“The workers were digging to construct a retaining wall for the culvert when a slab of the old retaining wall collapsed on them,” Mr. Garg said, adding that the three workers died on the spot.
He said that the police have initiated an investigation for now and will take action based on it.
The village comes under Budhni Assembly constituency, which was represented by former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, now a Union Minister, since 2006 and was vacated after he won the 2024 Lok Sabha election and become the MP from Vidisha.
Local sub-divisional magistrate D.S. Tomar said that two of the deceased were from Vidisha district, identified as Karan and Ram Krishna, while the other, Bhagwan Lal, was a resident of Guna.
