The District and Sessions Court (POCSO Act Special) in Kalaburagi has sentenced 20-year-old Kishan Rathod, a native of Badnihal Tanda in Jewargi taluk in Kalaburagi district, to 30 years in jail and imposed on him ₹47,000 fine for sexually assaulting a minor girl three years ago.
As per a complaint lodged by the victim’s father, the convict stalked the minor girl and told her that he was willing to marry her. On December 13, 2021, Kishan abducted the girl and sexually assaulted her for a week after taking her to Hyderabad in Telangana.
Following a complaint, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered at Jewargi Police Station against the accused.
Confirming the allegations made in the complaint, a charge-sheet was filed at Jewargi Police Station.
Judge Yamunappa Bammanagi, who heard both the parties and examined witnesses, found the accused guilty of the crimes mentioned in the charge-sheet.
He was convicted under Sections 363, 366 (a) and 376 (2) (n) of Indian Penal Code for kidnapping and raping a minor girl.
The judge sentenced the offender to a 30-year jail term and also imposed a fine of ₹47,000 on him under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
