Two persons were found dead inside a parked caravan at Karimbanapalam near Vadakara in Kozhikode district on Monday. The police identified the dead as Manoj and Joyal, the driver and cleaner of the tourist vehicle owned by a Malappuram native.
The incident came to light on Monday night when a few local traders called the police to inspect the vehicle which was remaining idle along the road from Sunday.
Police sources said the two, hailing from Malappuram and Kasaragod districts, might have inhaled carbon monoxide leaked from the vehicle’s damaged air conditioner. Senior police officers reached the spot around 8 p.m. to inspect the vehicle. More details could be revealed only after the post-mortem, they said.
The police also confirmed that the two were coming back to Malappuram after dropping a few tourists at Thalassery on Sunday. They might have stopped the vehicle there to take rest, the police said.
The bodies were identified with the support of a few documents recovered from the vehicle. Police officers also examined the closed-circuit television camera visuals from the nearby locations to gather more details.
