The main accused in the case of a man’s body coming by parcel to a woman in Yendagandi in West Godavari district had allegedly tried to hush up the incident by throwing the body into a nearby canal, according to police.
The woman, Sagi Tulasi, who was staying with her daughter in Yendagandi of Undi mandal, received the body in a parcel box on December 19 (Thursday).
The Undi police, who registered a case, have questioned Ms. Tulasi and her family members in connection with the case. However, Siddharth Varma, husband of Tulasi’s sister Revathi, has been absconding since December 19 night and his mobile phone is switched off.
During the investigation, it was found that the accused, Siddharth Varma, tried to convince Tulasi, her sister Revathi and other family members to hush up the case by dumping the body into a nearby canal.
“Tulasi received the parcel box around 5 p.m. on Thursday. But, the woman came to the Undi police station around 9 p.m. The accused, Siddharth Varma, reportedly held discussions with Tulasi, her parents and others to destroy the evidence by throwing the body into a canal or the Godavari river the same night,” a police officer investigating the case said on the condition of anonymity.
Siddharth Varma reportedly promised to execute the plan and sought the cooperation of other family members, the officer said.
“Suspecting conspiracy, Tulasi told her well-wishers about the incident and came to the Undi police station with their help,” West Godavari Superintendent of Police Adnan Nayeem Asmi said on Sunday (December 22).
Mr. Adnan Nayeem, who is monitoring the investigation, said they are searching for Siddharth Varma and trying to identify the murdered person.
Eluru Range Inspector General of Police (IGP) G.V.G. Ashok Kumar, who reviewed the case with the SP and the special teams, said more than one person might be involved in the case.
Mr. Adnan Nayeem informed the IGP that nobody has claimed the body, which is kept at Government General Hospital mortuary in Eluru.
“We are trying to find out the motive for the murder and in sending the body to Ms. Tulasi. Special teams are trying to identify the person who was murdered,” Mr. Ashok Kumar said.
