Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar continues its triumphant run, smashing records to become the highest-grossing IMAX re-release of all time. Paramount and IMAX expanded the sci-fi epic’s domestic screen count to 320 this past weekend, driving it to an impressive $3.5 million domestically and $3.75 million globally.
Since its 10-day re-release began, Interstellar has amassed a remarkable $10.8 million domestically. This brings its total for the 2024 IMAX anniversary run to a staggering $17.4 million. Globally, the film’s lifetime IMAX earnings now stand at $132.3 million, solidifying its place as the 8th highest-grossing IMAX release of all time.
The film’s enduring appeal speaks to Nolan’s masterful storytelling and the immersive IMAX experience that continues to captivate audiences nearly a decade after its original release.
Earlier this month, Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2: The Rule dominated the IMAX screen space in theatres across India, sparking backlash amongst Indian Nolan fans for missing out on the oppurtunity to relive the experience.
Meanwhile, other IMAX releases in the U.S. struggled to compete. Sony’s Kraven the Hunter opened to a lackluster $1.7 million globally, while Disney’s Moana 2 and Universal’s Wicked added $600,000 and $765,000 to their IMAX totals, respectively.
