12-year-old boy killed in road accident on his birthday in Bengaluru

A 12-year-old boy was killed on his birthday and his elder brother injured when a lorry knocked down their motorcycle on Hennur Bande Main Road on Saturday night.

The deceased has been identified as Bhanutej, a native of Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh. He had come to the city to learn the Vedas and had been staying with a priest at a temple in R.T. Nagar for the past one month, said the police.

According to the police, Bhanutej’s elder brother Chakradhar had picked him up from the temple and the duo had gone to a relative’s house in Horamavu for dinner, to celebrate Bhanutej’s birthday.

On their way back, when they were passing through Hennur Bande Main Road, the lorry knocked them down from behind. Chakradhar fell down on one side of the lorry, and Bhanutej who was riding pillion came under the wheels of the lorry and was crushed to death, said the police.

The lorry driver abandoned the vehicle and fled. Passers-by rushed an injured Chakradhar to a nearby private hospital where he is being treated.

The brothers’ uncle Ravi has now lodged a complaint alleging that rash and negligent driving by the lorry driver caused the accident. The traffic police have registered a case of causing death due to negligence, rash and negligent driving against the unidentified lorry driver and recovered the vehicle. Efforts are on to track him down.
