The Kalaburagi Police shot at a 32-year-old drug peddler and successfully intercepted him while he was transporting narcotic substance near Tavargera Cross on the outskirts of Kalaburagi and arrested him on Saturday.
The accused has been identified as Supreet Kumar Navale.
Police Commissioner Sharanappa S. Dhage said that the police, acting on a tip-off, intercepted a car. Upon inspection, they discovered narcotic substance in it.
When the accused tried to attack police personnel with a knife, Police Inspector Raghavendra attached to Chowk Police Station opened fire at him and arrested him.
In the scuffle, police constable Gurumurthy too suffered injuries on his left arm.
The injured accused as well as the police constable are admitted to the Trauma Care Centre of Gulbarga Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS).
Dr. Dhage said that the accused was wanted in at least three Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act cases in multiple stations. A case has been registered in the Sub-Urban Police Station.
