Coimbatore District Collector Kranti Kumar Pati inaugurated the distribution of Pongal gift hampers at Veerakeralam in the city on Thursday. The hampers will also be distributed to Sri Lankan refugees in the district.

The inauguration was held at the Veerakeralam Town Co-operative Fair Price Shop, where the Collector was accompanied by Mayor K. Ranganayaki, Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabhakaran, District Revenue Officer M. Sharmila, Deputy Mayor R. Vetriselvan, Joint Registrar of Co-operative Societies K. Azhagiri and Deputy Registrar K.R. Rajendran.

Each pongal gift hamper contains one kilo of raw rice, one kilo of sugar and a full sugarcane. The gift hampers will be distributed across 1,236 fair price shops run by co-operatives, 55 shops run by the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation and 91 shops run by women self-help groups across the district, and will benefit over 11.12 lakh card holders.
