A formal complaint has been submitted to the Guinness World Records, seeking an investigation into the validity of the record claimed at the dance event held on December 29, 2024, at Kaloor in Kochi.
The complaint, lodged by Shino P. Jose, Associate Professor at St. Pius X College, Rajapuram, points to the alleged financial fraud and negligence by the event organisers.
According to the complaint addressed to Alistair Richards, global president of the Guinness World Records, the event claimed the participation of 12,000 dancers. However, allegations surfaced suggesting that the figure was inflated to facilitate financial gains, he said. The organisers allegedly collected additional fee for Guinness certificates, resulting in an estimated ₹10 crore in unlawful revenue, he said in his complaint.
Safety concerns were also raised following an incident during the event, in Uma Thomas, MLA, sustained serious injuries. The organisers were also accused of proceeding with the programme despite the accident, sparking public outrage.
Mr. Jose called upon the Guinness World Records to review the event’s legitimacy and revoke any recognition granted if the allegations were proven true.
