Man allegedly waylaid, robbed in Kalady


The manager of a wholesale vegetable dealership on a scooter was allegedly waylaid, stabbed, and robbed of a sum claimed to be running into lakhs by a motorcycle-borne gang at Chengal in Kalady on Friday evening.

The victim, Thankachan, sustained a stab injury to his abdomen but is said to be stable. The police recovered a pepper spray bottle from the area leading to suspicion that it was sprayed at his face.

K.V. Poulachan, Kalady panchayat ward member, said Thankachan regularly used to take the same route to his employer’s house to hand over the day’s collection. According to the victim’s statement, ₹32 lakh was robbed though it remains to be verified by the police.
