Buon Natale, a grand Christmas celebration organised by the Thrissur Archdiocese of the Syro-Malabar Church in collaboration with Thrissur Pouravali, is set to take place on Friday .
Over the years, this vibrant event has become a signature occasion for Thrissur, embodying the festive spirit of Christmas. The name Buon Natale, which means “Happy Christmas” in Italian, reflects the joy and warmth the celebration brings to the community.
This year, Buon Natale will continue its tradition of charity, with keys to newly built homes being handed over to financially disadvantaged families from various religious backgrounds. Leaders from all walks of life, including religious figures, political and cultural icons, industrialists, and more, will come together to mark the occasion.
At the heart of the celebration, more than 15,000 people dressed as Santa Claus will groove to lively Christmas music in a spectacular procession through Swaraj Round. The festivities will kick off at 5 p.m. from St. Thomas College, Thrissur. A colourful tableaux showcasing the region’s cultural richness, energetic band performances, and a breathtaking 60-foot long LED Eden garden that will light up the night will be a feast for the eyes.
Since its inception in 2013, Buon Natale has become a key highlight of Thrissur’s cultural calendar, even entering the Guinness World Records in 2014. This year’s event also aims to be an unforgettable experience, blending tradition, charity, and festive joy.
