Four men were arrested by the Borabanda police for harassing and sexually assaulting a minor girl late on Monday.
The incident came to light following a distress call from the girl’s neighbour after which the police rushed to the spot and arrested one of the men, all of whom are natives of Bihar.
According to the police, on the intervening night of December 23 and 24 when the victim was returning home in Borabanda with her male friend, four men on a two-wheeler stopped their autorickshaw. While two of them sat in the autorickshaw, the other two followed the vehicle on their bike.
“When the victim and her boyfriend tried to get down, the accused obstructed their way. They threatened the auto driver and sent him off. They took the couple to an isolated place where they demanded money from them. While one of them held the boy, three others forcibly took the girl to her uncle’s residence where they tried to sexually assault her,” Borabanda inspector S. Veerashekar said.
When the girl managed to escape to her house located right behind, the accused followed her, threatened her family with a blade and sexually harassed her again, the official said. As people gathered at the spot, three of them managed to escape but were arrested shortly after.
The four were booked under a series of charges, including gangrape on a woman under 18 years, wrongful confinement and restraint, stalking, assault or criminal force, outraging a woman’s modesty, voluntarily causing hurt, criminal intimidation, house-trespass and sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
