The Undi police of West Godavari district are trying to connect the dots in the sensational case in which a body was delivered to a woman in Yendagandi village by parcel.
An investigating officer said on condition of anonymity that the suspect, T. Siddharth Varma alias Sridhar Varma, tried to threaten the woman, Sagi Tulasi, by sending a body by parcel, over a property dispute. He allegedly killed Barre Parlaiah, a day labourer from Kalla village who had deserted his family.
The police believe that the suspect might have chosen Parlaiah, thinking that the latter’s family would not come looking for him. “In a planned manner, Siddharth Varma engaged Parlaiah for labour, took him to an isolated place, made him consume liquor and strangled him to death,” the officer said.
West Godavari Superintendent of Police (SP) Adnan Nayeem Asmi said on Wednesday (December 25) that they were trying to find out whether Siddharth Varma’s third wife, Vijaya Lakshmi, was involved in the murder and whether anyone else had any role in the case.
“Police have definite clues in the case, and we are focusing on where Parlaiah was murdered, how many were involved in the crime, who prepared the wooden box or from where the accused had bought it, how the couple escaped from Kalla and Bhimavaram after committing the offence, who helped them, where the accused hid … and other details,” Mr. Adnan Nayeem told The Hindu.
Instructions have been given to the the Undi, Akiveedu, Kalla, Bhimavaram and Kaikalur police as well as the Central Crime Station, Cybercrime and other wings of the police to collect all scientific evidences and witnesses in the case, the SP said.
Meanwhile, police searched the houses of Siddharth Varma and Vijaya Lakshmi and found a wooden box, similar to the one in which the body was sent to Tulasi, and other materials. The police are investigating as to why the accused had readied another box. “We are probing the case from all angles,” said the SP, who is monitoring the investigation.
