The Chandra Layout police have booked a cheating case against a woman who claimed to be the sister of former Congress MP D.K. Suresh and cheated a city-based jeweller of ₹8.41 crore.
Based on the complaint by Vanitha S. Aithal, owner of the jewellery shop, the police registered an FIR on Monday, booking Aishwarya Gowda, who claimed to be Suresh’s sibling, her husband Harish K.N. and Kannada film actor Dharmendra B. for cheating.
According to the FIR, Vanitha, who ran Vaarahi World of Gold in Chandra Layout, knew Aishwarya and Harish, who resided in R.R. Nagar. Aishwarya allegedly told Vanitha that she was Suresh’s younger sister and knew many politicians.
Claiming to be a businesswoman and having high links she offered Ms. Vanitha with a lot of business, she claimed as per the FIR. After gaining her confidence, she borrowed some jewellery from my shop and returned the cash in a few days to gain trust and borrow more jewels on credit basis, she said.
Between October 12, 2023 and January 1, 2024, the accused borrowed 14.660 kg of gold from her and alleged that neither the borrowed gold nor its equivalent of ₹8.41 Crore was returned. According to the FIR, Aishwarya’s husband Harish once called former MP Mr. Suresh on the phone to made him talk with the complainant Vanitha to seek more time to return the gold. Vanitha said she agreed after the call. The FIR noted that Vanitha later found it was actor Dharmendra who claimed to be D. K. Suresh and spoke to Vanitha. She further stated that whenever she sought the gold back, the accused threatened her with dire consequences.
The accused have been booked under Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 419 (cheating by personation), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for further investigation.
