The Vadakara police have confirmed carbon monoxide poisoning in the death of two people inside a parked caravan at Vadakara in Kozhikode on Monday night.
Nidhin Raj P., District Police Chief (Kozhikode Rural), told The Hindu that doctors had noticed the red colouration of internal organs of both the deceased, a known symptom of carbon monoxide poisoning. “I inspected the vehicle in question and found a generator inside it. It might have emitted the gas, which then might have got entrapped in the air conditioning system,” Mr. Nidhin Raj said.
The deceased were identified as Manoj, 49, from Vaniyambalam in Malappuram and Joel, 26, from Nedumchan in Kannur, the driver and cleaner of the caravan respectively. They had parked the vehicle at Karimpanapalam near Vadakara on Sunday and appeared to have slept.
The caravan belongs to a logistics company in Malappuram. It was returning after dropping a wedding group at Kannur. Local residents alerted the police when the caravan was found at the same spot for two consecutive days.
After inquest and autopsy proceedings, the bodies were released to relatives.
