Mandya district in-charge Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy has said that the 87th Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana which concluded in Mandya on Sunday was a resounding success and a Kananda Bhavan will be constructed in the town to commemorate the event.

He was speaking to mediapersons in Mandya after conducting a post-event review on Tuesday. The Minister thanked the officials for the successful organisation of the Sammelana in a grand manner and said that over 6 lakh people attended the event which has set a benchmark for others to emulate.

The Kannada Sahitya Sammelana was held in Mandya after a gap of 30 years and it has been decided to construct a Kannada Bhavan to commemorate the event. A suitable place will be identified in the town and the foundation stone will be laid for it at the earliest, said Mr. Cheluvayaswamy.

The Minister said that ammelana president Go. Ru. Channabasappa has also given his positive opinion and has said that of the 20 Kannada Sahitya Sammelanas that he has attended so far, the event in Mandya was by far the best. The Minister also thanked all government employees for the successful organisation of the event besides having contributed one day’s salary towards meeting its expenditure.

The sammelana saw 30-plus sessions. There were 250 delegates who took part from 18 countries and have sent congratulatory messages for the successful conduct of the Sammelana, the Minister added.

He said the Kananda Ratha which traversed across the State and visited every Gram Panchayat in Mandya district, helped drum up awareness and ensured public attendance in large numbers. “Participants from other districts have also shared their positive response for the initiative,” he said.

In addition to Kannada Ratha, the Run for Kannada marathon also created a lot of buzz and was instrumental in shoring up public participation, according to Mr. Cheluvarayaswamy.

Mandya MLA P. Ravikumar, Srirangapatana MLA A.B. Ramesh Bandisidde Gowda, Deputy Commissioner Kumar, Mandya ZP CEO Sheikh Tanvir Asif, Superintendent of Police Mallikarjun Baladandi, Mandya Kananda Sahitya Parishat convenor Meera Shivalingaiah and others were present.
