National Consumers’ Day was celebrated in Chamarajanagar on Tuesday and people were urged to be aware of the consumer laws meant to protect their rights.
District Consumer Redressal Forum president H.N. Srinidhi, inaugurated the programme and said that consumer rights’ awareness was essential as every individual was a consumer of various services. He said people should insist on bills for every purchase and also check for quality or authenticity of the products purchased and if found wanting, approach consumer courts for grievance redressal.
Mr. Srinidhi also drew attention to online purchases that were increasing by the day and said that as consumers, people should exercise greater vigil and caution.
Senior Civil Judge of Chamarajanagar and member secretary of Chamarajanagar District Legal Services Authority Eshwar stressed on the importance of greater legal awareness and knowledge for protecting consumers rights.
Bharati, member of the Chamarajanagar District Consumer Redressal Forum, highlighted some instances of deficiency in services and how people could approach the forum to secure justice.
Yoganand, Deputy Director, Department of Food and Civil Supplies, said National Consumers’ Day is celebrated every year on December 24 as the Consumer Protection Act, 1986, was enacted on this day.
