In a letter to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief and former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Lieutenant-Governor V.K. Saxena flagged the deteriorating civic amenities in the Capital on Monday.
This comes a day after the L-G wrote about the ‘miserable conditions’ in Rangpuri Pahari. Chief Minister Atishi had later visited the area.
Responding to the L-G, Mr. Kejriwal said “LG sahab: Thank you for drawing our attention to the problems of Rangpuri Pahari. Our team is constructing a new drain there and cleaning it on a war footing.” He added that if there were other areas that needed the Delhi government’s attention, they would tend to it.
In his letter to Mr. Kejriwal, the L-G accused him of turning a blind eye to the ‘hellish’ civic conditions in Delhi during his tenure as Chief Minister for the past 10 years.
The L-G further wrote that in the past two and a half years, he has drawn Mr. Kejriwal’s attention to many grave problems in Delhi, including issues like the pollution in Yamuna, the cleaning of the Najafgarh drain, desilting of sewer lines, dilapidated condition of roads, water shortage, delays in the construction of hospitals and air pollution.
Responding to the letter, the AAP in a statement said, “The Lieutenant Governor (LG) Saab seems to be more interested in politics than his sole responsibility—law and order, which is in complete disarray and worsening with each passing day.”
