M.K. Raghavan, MP, has demanded Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s resignation for allegedly undermining Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the Father of the Indian Constitution, in Parliament. Speaking to the media here on Monday (December 23), he also urged Mr. Shah to apologise and retract his alleged defamatory remarks about Ambedkar.
“The Bharatiya Janata Party [BJP] has openly stated that it would change the Constitution’s preamble if it secured an absolute majority. Since that is not possible now, its leaders are resorting to insulting the Constitution and its founders,” Mr. Raghavan said, accusing the party of showing contempt not only towards the Constitution but also towards Dalits.
Citing the BJP’s reluctance to conduct a caste census, Mr. Raghavan said it revealed the party’s anti-reservation stance and exposed the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government’s claims of uplifting the marginalised as entirely hollow.
Mr. Raghavan highlighted that the BJP was attempting to frame Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi with ‘fake cases’ and demanded that they be dropped immediately.
