Christmas is a season of celebration, and what better way to mark the time than with homemade plum cakes, rose cookies, and gingerbread? Many Bengalurueans now choose home bakers instead of traditional bakeries for their festive celebrations.

“The food from home bakers is always hygienic and tasty, and the gingerbread cookies I have ordered from a home baker are the best I have ever had. They are so soft and tasty, and the icing has the right amount of sweetness,” said Rashmi, a Namma Metro employee.

Some home bakers often cater to specific dietary needs with gluten-free, vegan, and sugar-free options. They also offer customised cakes and cookies with personalised decorations. “I am very conscious about my sugar consumption for health reasons, and it is difficult to find sugar-free baked goods in commercial bakeries at affordable prices. But there are many home bakers online who sell sugar-free items at a relatively cheaper price, and there is also an option to choose different flavours and spices,” said Jennifer. G. P., a resident of Kodigehalli.

“Home bakers reported that offers have been pouring in for more than a month and called the Christmas season their best season. “Christmas is our profit season and the orders are more compared to the other times. The quality of our cakes is unique and plum cakes are more in demand during this time. The key to attracting customers is by providing high-quality cake at cheaper prices,” said Ashwini Y. J., a home baker from the City.

Home bakers use social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook to showcase their creations and connect with potential customers. They also mentioned an app which is made specifically to connect home bakers with customers.

“Building a loyal customer base is main way to grow our businesses and of course the word of mouth referrals are more effective,” said Naga Guna, a home baker who specialises in intricate Yule log cakes. “I enjoy incorporating my ideas into designs making each order truly special,” he added.
