Woman arrested in connection with rape of minor girl

The Pathanamthitta police on Monday arrested a 41-year-old woman from Konni for her alleged involvement in a case where a 46-year-old man sexually abused a minor girl. The woman, a close relative of the victim, was taken into custody on finding that she had colluded with the main accused to facilitate the abuse.

According to investigators, the woman, who acted as the girl’s caretaker, introduced her to the primary accused, a lawyer, at a hotel in Pathanamthitta in June last year. Following this, the girl was subjected to repeated assaults over the course of a year across different locations. The survivor, who endured severe physical and psychological trauma, was later moved to a One-Stop Centre in Kozhencherry for support and rehabilitation.

The abuse came to light when the girl confided in her father, who alerted the Pathanamthitta Child Welfare Committee. Acting on their complaint, the Konni police registered a case, which was subsequently transferred to the Aranmula police for further investigation.

Investigations so far revealed that the accused women had received money in turn for facilitating the abuse. The accused women, meanwhile, was presented before a magistrate and remanded.
