Dr. Agarwal’s Eye hospital will host a summit on myopia and digital eye strain patients on January 4.
The second edition of the annual summit is dedicated to addressing the growing challenges posed by prolonged screen time and its impact on eye health, said Ashvin Agarwal, the hospital’s chief clinical officer. “We want to teach people the basics of the condition. Myopia is one of the leading causes of blindness. In India 1.5 million people have myopia,” he said.
S. Soundari, regional head, clinical services, said the prevalence of myopia in urban India had surged from 4.44% in 1999 to 21.15% in 2019 and was expected to rise to 48.14% by 2050.
Kaladevi Satish, zonal head, clinical services, said constant rubbing of eyes, headache, blurred vision of distant objects, frequent blinking and the habit of getting close to television were alarm signs that the child must be checked for refractive errors.
Ramya Sampath, regional head of clinical services, said the summit would offer laser vision correction procedures and their benefits as well. Those interested need to register to participate in the summit scheduled to be held live in Chennai and Mumbai. There will be interactive sessions online.
The three-hour programme will begin at 3 p.m. To register visit https://www.dragarwal.com/myopia-patient-summit/ or contact 9594901868.
