IT professional among three held for possessing unlicenced pistol in Coimbatore


Three youth, including an IT professional, were arrested by the Anti-Terrorist Squad unit in Coimbatore for possessing an unlicenced pistol.

Manikandaprabu (22), an IT professional residing in Cheran Maanagar, Harisri (23) of Kalapatti and Kunthanrai (22) of Bihar, who were riding a motorcycle, were intercepted during vehicle checks and were found to be in possession of a country-made pistol and six rounds of ammunition.

The police also seized their mobile phones and the motorcycle, and handed them over at the Peelamedu Police Station. A case under Section 3 (read with) 25 (IB) (A) of Arms Act was registered by the jurisdictional police.

The police said inquiries indicated that the trio had indulged in the offence for the first time. They were remanded in judicial custody.
