Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) president Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss on Sunday (December 22, 2024) said the Tamil Nadu government should not remain an idle spectator at a time when 17 people have died by suicide after taking part in and losing money to online rummy games, and urged the authorities concerned to ensure that the Madras High Court stay on the ban on online rummy is reversed in the Supreme Court soon.
In a statement, he said it was unacceptable that the Tamil Nadu government, which was able to file an appeal in the Supreme Court over the transfer of the Kallakurichi illicit liquor deaths investigation to the CBI and bring the case to a hearing in five days, has failed to bring the petition seeking a ban on online rummy — responsible for claiming the lives of Tamil Nadu citizens — to a hearing even after more than a year.
