A24 on Monday (December 17) released the trailer of its upcoming war drama, Warfare, directed by Iraq War veteran Ray Mendoza and filmmaker Alex Garland of Civil War fame.
The action-packed, hectically cut trailer promises an immersive war drama set in Iraq in 2006. We see a platoon of US Navy SEALs executing a covert reconnaissance mission from a hideout, with a sniper analysing enemy movements. Within mere seconds, everything changes and all hell lets loose on the team.
“A visceral, boots-on-the-ground story of modern warfare, told like never before: in real time and based on the memory of the people who lived it,” reads A24’s logline of the film.
Leading the cast are D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Will Poulter, Cosmo Jarvis, Kit Connor, Finn Bennett, Taylor John Smith, Michael Gandolfini, Adain Bradley, Noah Centineo, Evan Holtzman, Henrique Zaga, Joesph Quinn and Charles Melton.
Warfare is based on Mendoza’s real-life experiences, and Woon-A-Tai’s character is said to be based on Mendoza. The film is set to release in 2025.
Notably Mendoza worked with Garland as a military supervisor on the latter’s dystopian war drama Civil War. Starring Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, and Cailee Spaeny, the film minted over $126 million worldwide
