Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy reiterated the Congress government’s dedication to ensuring quality education for all, particularly for disadvantaged communities.

Speaking at the 50th anniversary celebrations of Dr BR Ambedkar Educational Institutions at Bagh Lingampally here on Sunday, Mr. Reddy highlighted the government’s initiatives to address gaps in the education system.

The event, held alongside the 10th death anniversary of institution founder Gaddam Venkatswamy, saw the participation of several dignitaries, including Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad, Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, MLAs Nagaraju and Gaddam Vivekanad, MP Gaddam Vamsi Krishna, former minister P. Shankar Rao, college secretary and former minister G. Vinod, and correspondent Saroja Vivek. Alumni from across the globe joined the celebrations, reflecting on the institution’s legacy.

Mr. Reddy outlined the Congress government’s efforts to overhaul the education sector in Telangana. He introduced the Young India Integrated Residential Schools initiative, aimed at providing English-medium education up to 12th standard with international standards.

“These schools, established on 20-25 acre campuses, cater to students from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes, and other underserved communities. We have already launched them in 60 constituencies and plan to expand to all 119 assembly constituencies, with an estimated budget of ₹5,000 crore,” he said.

Mr. Reddy criticised the previous BRS government for its neglect of primary education, noting that it failed to recruit teachers for a decade. “Within six months of coming to power, we recruited 11,000 teachers and facilitated promotions and transfers. Additionally, we have appointed full-time vice-chancellors to address long-standing vacancies in universities,” he said.

Praising Dr BR Ambedkar Educational Institutions, he said, “This institution has set an example by focusing on uplifting underprivileged communities without profit motive. Unlike many profit-driven educational institutions, it does not collect donations and remains committed to social service.”

He lauded the Gaddam family for their contributions to education and public service, urging them to seek autonomous university status for the institution to introduce new courses.
