Water level in Stanley Reservoir at Mettur on Sunday stood at 119.22 feet against the full reservoir level of 120 feet. The storage level stood at 92.23 tmc ft, against its full capacity of 93.47 tmc ft. Inflow into the dam reduced to 2,886 cusecs from the Saturday’s inflow of 2,938 cusecs. The amount of water discharged from the dam into River Cauvery for delta irrigation and canal irrigation continued at 500 cusecs and 300 cusecs, respectively.
Seven arrested for smuggling elephant tusks in Krishnagiri
Acting on a tip-off, the Forest Department officials headed by Hosur Forest Ranger R. Parthasarathy nabbed four people who arrived at Matham Circle near ESI Ring Road in Hosur Corporation around 3 p.m. on Saturday to sell two elephant tusks. The arrested were identified as R. Venkatesh (27), a resident of Anumanthapuram; M. Vijayakumar (25), a resident of Anekal in Bengaluru; C. Haribhupathi (39), a resident of Nadupatti in Uthangarai; and A. Paranthaman (27), a resident of Narayana Nagar in Uthangarai. The officials also seized the tusks from them. Based on investigations, they nabbed three more persons in connection with the case: M. Muniraj (29), a resident of Denkanikottai; M. Lingappa (39); and R. Pasalingappa (42), residents of Palaiyur. The officials are on the lookout for two more accused in connection with the case.
Man arrested under POSCO Act in Krishnagiri
The Denkanikottai All Women Police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and arrested a 27-year-old man on Saturday. According to the police, the man sexually abused the 13-year-old daughter of the woman whom he married a few years ago. The girl was found pregnant when she was taken to the doctor after she fell ill. It was found that her stepfather had allegedly abused her.
Clash between students, police deployed in Salem
Following a clash between two groups of Plus-One students outside Thirumanur Government Higher Secondary School in Salem on Saturday evening, more than 50 police personnel were deployed in the village to avoid untoward incidents on Sunday. The Vazhapadi police are investigating.
