BJP State president K. Surendran has alleged that communal forces are supporting not only Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi but also CPI(M) polit bureau member A. Vijayaraghavan.
Addressing the media here on Sunday, he said that it is not a new revelation that communal forces support the Congress. He alleged that both the LDF and UDF are contesting elections with the support of communal forces. The BJP leader was responding to the recent remarks by Mr. Vijayaraghavan that “fundamentalist votes” catalysed the victories of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
“Every body knows the reason behind the recent revelations of Mr. Vijayaraghavan. The CPI(M) lost the support of the majority community and leaders like Mr. Vijayaraghavan are trying to regain that support by making such remarks. His party has open alliances with organisations like the PDP and the INL. They also had formed alliances with the Popular Front and Jamaat-e-Islami. While the UDF is in an open alliance with the Muslim League, SDPI, and Jamaat-e-Islami.”
CPI(M) is trying to recruit the Popular Front cadres into the party. Mr. Surendran emphasised that the ideological divide within the CPI(M), especially in places like Kollam and Alappuzha, stems from the same issue. Both the CPI(M) and the IUML are competing to bring in PFI members into their ranks, he said. According to Mr. Surendran, the CPM’s secularism is merely a facade to deceive the majority community.
