A gang of 12 involved in robbery of gold, silver and brass ornaments worth ₹1.2 crore were nabbed by the Central Zone Task Force team and Domalguda Police.
The gang, led by Indrajit Ghorai, the younger brother of the victim Ranjeet Ghorai, executed a planned dacoity at Ranjeet’s residence in Domalguda during the early hours of December 12, said the Hyderabad police commissioner C.V. Anand.
The gang barged into Ranjeet’s house between 3:30 a.m. and 4 a.m., wielding axes, knives, sickles and a lighter gun to intimidate the family into submission. They fled the scene in an SUV, escaping with gold ornaments weighing over 1.2 kg, 616 grams of silver, brass articles and ₹2.9 lakh in cash.
The arrested individuals include Indrajit Ghorai, 43, the mastermind and main conspirator, along with Altaf Mohammed Khan, 23, Syed Irfan Ahmed, 44, Md. Noor Ullah, 40, Habeeb Hussain, 35, Shaik Shabbir, 46, Mohd Arbaaz, 25, Shoaib Khan, 22, Gulam Maqdum alias Shonu, 29, Shaik Osman alias Saif, 24, Shaik Allauddin alias Mirza, 29, and Shaik Akram, 21. Three more accomplices — Shahabaz, Nazeer and Zaheer — remain absconding.
“The dacoity stemmed from a personal grudge. Indrajit Ghorai, frustrated by financial losses in his gold ornament business and extravagant spending habits, harboured resentment towards his more successful brother Ranjeet, whose thriving business and property acquisitions fuelled sibling rivalry. Determined to recover his losses, Indrajit conspired with Altaf Mohammed Khan and Syed Irfan Ahmed, gradually assembling a team of accomplices, including rowdy sheeters and criminals with prior offences,” said the officer.
