Relatives of a lactating mother on Sunday complained of medical negligence after she died at the District Hospital in Belagavi.
The post-partum death of Vaishali Kotabagi, a resident of Gowadwad village in Hukkeri taluk, was recorded by doctors in the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences.
“We admitted her to the maternity ward of the hospital on Saturday. She underwent a Caesarean section delivery and gave birth to a baby girl. Her health was stable until 7 a.m. on Sunday, when she complained of chest pain,” her aunt Eravva said.
“The doctors did not arrive in time to treat her. Even though she was shifted to the intensive care unit, she passed away without receiving proper treatment,” Ms. Eravva said.
Meanwhile, Director of BIMS Ashok Kumar Shetty clarified, “Her health was stable until Sunday morning. When she complained of chest pain, the doctors attended to her immediately and tried to save her life. Unfortunately, she died of a heart-related issue.”
“I have ordered an investigation against the allegations made by the family members. If any negligence by doctors is proven, disciplinary action will be taken,” he added.
