Rajini (54) an Anganwadi employee from Jagityal district, was returning home along with her family and friends after a pilgrimage to Tirupathi and Arunachalam when the crime was committed. The woman, along with the family and friends, stopped their car at Pebbair to break the journey around 2 a.m. on the intervening of night of December 17 and 18.
After attending to nature’s calls, they took rest in the car and slipped into sleep. Members of the gang, on noticing the passengers were fast asleep, untied the travel bags atop the car and let the place. “However, they returned to the car after not finding any valuables in the bags,” the IGP said.
This time, the gang shattered the windscreens of the car, assaulted the passengers inside, forcibly collected the 13.5 tolas of gold jewellery the women wore and fled the spot.
