Aspirants of Group-I Services in the State have reiterated their plea to the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) to reconsider its decision on selection of candidates in the preliminary exams. They want the Commission to relook at its decision of selecting candidates in 1:50 ratio and instead, select candidates in 1:100 ratio, like it was done for Group-II Services and Deputy Education Officers’ exams.
Citing GO No. 5, which says that the APPSC has the discretion to select the candidates from prelims to Mains in 1:100 ratio, they asserted that when the selection pattern of 1:100 ratio was adopted for Group-II Services and Dy Education Officers’ exams, which were conducted before and after the Group-I prelims, what was the problem in implementing 1:100 ratio for Group-I exams.
“We have made several representations to the Commission as well as the government, but our pleas have not been heeded,” says Pilla Mounika, a Group-I Services aspirant from Kakinada.
“The authorities concerned should look at the steep increase in the number of candidates aspiring for these posts over the years and alter the selection mode appropriately,” said Nalluri Sumanth, yet another aspirant from Vijayawada.
Leaders of Andhra Pradesh Nirudyoga Joint Action Committee (JAC) also made a representation to the Commission Chairperson A.R. Anuradha and urged her to concede the candidates’ plea.
JAC’s State president S. Hemanth Kumar said the Commission should take into consideration the hardships faced by candidates, especially those from rural areas and the ones opting for Telugu medium in the wake of the confusion surrounding the syllabus of the exam.
The JAC leaders also want the Commission to notify the 245 approved posts of Integrated Child Development Scheme Project Officers and increase the upper age limit for the general category candidates to 48 years and also issue notification for vacant librarian posts in Government Degree, Intermediate and Polytechnic colleges and all other government educational institutions.
Pointing to the fact that these vacant positions had not been notified in the last 12 years, they said filling up of these posts would help a section of the unemployed youth.
