Three reservoirs in Coimbatore and Tiruppur districts are filling up fast, what with rainfall in the catchments resulting in steady inflow, much to the relief of the farming community.
According to officials of agriculture and horticulture departments, the water availability in the reservoirs will ensure fullest completion of the wetting schedules.
Amaravathy, Aliyar, and Parambikulam dams are close to brimming, going by the latest reading of the levels.
As on Saturday, the level in Amaravathy Dam was 89.08 ft against the maximum of 90 ft. The storage was 3970 mcft against the capacity of 4047. The inflow was 711 cusecs and the outflow 488 cusecs. At the same time last year, the level was a little higher at 89.18 feet and the storage was 3973 mcft.
The level at Aliyar Dam was 119.3 ft against the maximum of 120 ft. The storage was 3815 mcft against the full capacity of 3864 cusecs. The outflow was more at 753 cusecs as against the inflow of 596 cusecs. Last year, the level stood at 49.47 ft and the storage was 1309 mcft.
The level at Parambikulam Dam was recorded at 67.28 ft against the maximum of 72 ft. The storage was 12338 mcft against the full capacity of 13408 mcft. Here, too, a higher outflow of 925 cusecs as against the inflow of 571 cusecs was recorded. Last year, the level was just at 50.59 ft and the storage was 8755 mcft.
Comparatively, the catchments of Thirumoorthy and Sholayar dams are receiving lesser rainfall.
At the Thirumoorthy Dam, the level was 52 ft against the maximum of 60 ft. The storage was1423 mcft against the full capacity of 1744 mcft. Last year, the level was a little lesser at 49.07 ft. The storage was 1309 mcft.
Yet, the outflow was higher at 963 cusecs as against the inflow of 937 cusecs. Likewise, in Sholayar Dam, the level was 137.67 ft against the maximum of 160 ft. The storage was 3871 mcft out of the maximum of 5046 mcft.
The inflow was just 44 cusecs and an outflow of 404 cusecs was registered. At the same time last year, the dam’s level stood at 29.75 ft and the storage was a dismal 396 mcft.
