Water released for irrigation of single crop areas


Water from Mullaperiyar dam was released for irrigation of single crop areas under the 18th canal in Theni district, on Saturday.

According to Water resources Department sources, 98 cusecs of water was released for 30 days to irrigate 4,614.25 acres of land in Uthamapalayam (2,045.35 acres) and Bodinayakanur (2,568.90 acres) taluks. A total of 255 mcft of water was released to fill the tanks that would benefit 13 villages. Theni Collector R. V. Shajeevana and Theni MP Thanga Tamilselvan formally released the water.
