Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) held a workshop with legal experts on Saturday to discuss the legalities related to protection of government lands and lake conservation.
Retired government servants too attended the workshop along with the legal experts and spoke about the dos and don’ts pertaining to construction in lake beds and layout open spaces.
The private land titles inside the lake bed are valid only for cultivation and not for construction, those attending the workshop said, and advocated for a system where plots cannot be registered inside lakes, government lands, and illegal layouts.
Layouts approved by village panchayats will not have legal sanctity once the village comes into the purview of HMDA. Every layout should have 30% space earmarked for public utilities. Direct action may be taken in case of misuse of lands allocated for public utilities, they said.
Village maps, apart from NRSC data and Survey of India maps may be used to find the illegally dumped/filled spaces in lakes, they added.
The attendees to the workshop include senior High Court advocate R. Mahender Reddy, Standing Counsel for GHMC & HYDRAA K. Ravinder Reddy and Assistant Standing Counsel Ch.Jayakrishna, retired deputy collector N. Srinivas Rao, retired special deputy collector, CCLA, B. Madhusudan, former senior advocate and academic P. Rajagopal, apart from others.
