Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) president Thol. Thirumavalavan on Saturday said revolutionary icon Che Guevara, who renunciated identity politics, had a world vision.
Releasing the Tamil translation of the book Che Guevara: A Revolutionary Life written by Jon Lee Anderson and translated by J. Deepalakshmi, Mr. Thirumavalavan said the religious and linguistic nationalism now prevailing in India is contrary to Mahatma Gandhi’s nationalism that was beyond identities such as caste and religion.
He further expressed caution about identity politics and urged youngsters to study Che Guevara to overcome such identity barriers.
Speaking at the event, CPI(M) State Secretary K. Balakrishnan said the Tamil translation would inspire youth in the State and change their perception towards society. Though Che Guevara lived only for 39 years, he travelled extensively across countries in Latin America and fought for the rights of the oppressed, he added.
Members of the Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers and Artists Association, VCK, and CPI(M) were present.
