Vice-Chancellor of Rani Channamma University C.M. Thyagaraja said the younger generation should equally blend intelligence and worldly wisdom to take on the challenges of the changing world and its pace of transformation driven by technology, climate challenges, and social movements.

Delivering the 6th convocation address of the Sharnbasva University at the Poojya Basavarajappa Appa Memorial Auditorium in Kalaburagi on Saturday, he told young graduates that the world would be waiting for them to make a mark, not just through their professional expertise but also through their ability to think and act ethically.

“Young graduates should remember that the true measure of a person’s success is their ability to adapt, to serve, and to make the world better than they found it. The living philosophy of Basaveshwara guides you to become responsible global citizens equipped with knowledge, skills and values to confront the challenges of a fast-changing world,” he said.

Advising the students to possess the eight qualities – intelligence, strength, fame, courage, fearlessness, good health, sharp wit, and good communication skills – to become a master in any field, Mr. Thyagaraja appealed to them not to run after material wealth which could, at best, stay with them till the end of the life.

“There would be no guarantee that the material wealth brings happiness into our lives. Unutilised wealth is like undigested food that torments. Such wealth initially appears thrilling but ends up causing pain and suffering,” he said.

Speaking on the troubles and hardships on the way of achieving financial freedom, Mr. Thyagaraja said that one should develop a mindset of working smart in the present with preparation for the future.

Chancellor of the University, Sharanabaswappa Appa, conferred the honorary doctorate to two personalities – ISRO scientist Ramanagouda Nadagouda and publisher Basavaraj Konek. Sri Sadashiva swami Peetadhipathi of the Sri Kottalabasaveshwar Temple and president of the Sri Kottalabasaveshwara Bharatiya Shikshana Samiti, who was also selected for the honorary doctorate, was absent.

As many as 39 meritorious students were honoured with gold and silver medals, and nine meritorious students with cash prizes instituted under different names. A total number of 939 undergraduate students and 571 postgraduate students were awarded degree certificates. Seven students got their PhD degrees.
