Gangs cheating people with forged documents arrested

The city police busted a gang that cheated many people promising them jobs as ticket collectors in the Indian Railways. The arrested have been identified as Lakshmi Kanth, 46, and Kuldeep Singh, 38, both from Kalaburagi, and Murali, 42, from Uttarahalli, Bengaluru. Four others in the gang are still at large, and efforts are underway to track them down.

The trio had conned four people in Kalaburagi district to the tune of ₹80 lakh, promising them jobs as TCs in Indian Railways. One of them had complained to the police, triggering a probe.

The gang not only collected money over several instalments promising jobs but also sent them fake appointment orders in registered posts. The victims turned up in Bengaluru to join duty only to realise they were duped, following which one of them complained to the Central Crime Branch.

Fake GPAs

In another case, CCB busted a gang that had created a fake general power of attorney (GPA) in the name of a dead person and sold a property in the city. A resident of Cox Town lodged a complaint that unidentified persons had forged a GPA in the name of his dead father for the site he now owned in Kothanur and had sold it.

Probing the case, CCB arrested two persons who had forged the documents and sold the property. A third accused secured anticipatory bail, even as a fourth is still at large. City Police Commissioner B. Dayananda said that cases of cheating using forged GPAs in the name of dead property owners had become a concern and appealed to people to be vigilant and report such cases to the police.

Investigations are underway in both cases to determine whether these gangs duped more people using the same method.
