Revanth targets BRS over development hurdles in Kodangal

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has reiterated his commitment to advancing development projects in the Kodangal Assembly constituency and the Palamuru region, despite alleged obstruction by the Opposition, particularly the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).

Addressing the Telangana Assembly on Saturday, the Chief Minister accused the BRS of provoking local farmers and hindering initiatives aimed at generating employment and infrastructure growth.

During a discussion on the ‘Rythu Bharosa’ scheme, Mr. Reddy stated that his government planned a Pharma Village near Lagcherla, which lies strategically between two national highways. “We proposed to acquire just 1,300 acres of land across four villages, including Lagcherla, out of the constituency’s total 3 lakh acres. This project would create employment for 25,000 to 50,000 people. However, the BRS has incited resistance among farmers,” he alleged.

Criticising the Opposition’s stance, he pointed out that the previous BRS government had acquired 15,000 acres of high-value land near Shamshabad for development projects. “If it is acceptable to acquire prime land near Hyderabad for industries, why is it wrong to establish a Pharma Village in rural areas?” he questioned.

The Chief Minister accused the BRS of sabotaging various initiatives, including the Musi development project, industrial expansions and metro rail extensions. “Their obstruction is not just against me but against the progress of Telangana. They are opposing every project that benefits people,” he remarked.

He also made scathing allegations against the BRS leadership, accusing them of attacking and even attempting to harm officials who facilitated developmental projects during their decade-long rule. “It’s not enough for the people of Kodangal to peel my skin and sew sandals,” he said.

Referring to the financial legacy of the previous government, Mr. Reddy stated that the BRS had left the State burdened with ₹7 lakh crore in debt, with loans taken at exorbitant interest rates of 11.5%. “This financial mismanagement has constrained our ability to allocate funds for welfare schemes,” he explained.

The Chief Minister also accused the BRS of neglecting key projects like the SLBC in Nalgonda and creating arrears in welfare programmes such as Rajiv Aarogyasri and fee reimbursement. “They ruled for ten years and left a trail of destruction,” he said, adding, “I didn’t come to power using my father’s name; I owe my position to the people.”
