The stand-off between the Jacobite and Orthodox factions of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church spilled onto the streets on Friday (December 20, 2024) night with the police booking a person from Mulanthuruthy, Ernakulam, Kerala, who was reportedly part of a group that confronted the police.

The police was trying to stop possible violence at the Mulanthuruthy Marthoman Church during a procession taken out as part of the church festival on Friday.

The two factions complained of violation of agreement regarding the conduct of the festival procession.
