Question paper leak: Crime Branch squad initiates steps to issue lookout notice for prime suspect

The Crime Branch (CB) has initiated measures to issue a lookout circular in search of Mohammed Shuhaib, the prime suspect in the half-yearly (Christmas) examinations in State schools. Though the CB squad officers entrusted with the investigation served a notice on him on December 21 to appear before them for further interrogation, the man was found absconding.

“On Monday, we issued summons to two more online trainers who worked at the Koduvally-based M.S. Solutions founded by Mr. Shuhaib. They would be quizzed for gathering more details in the days to come,” said a senior police officer with the special squad. He also said all surveillance measures were in place at various airports to prevent the possible escape of suspected persons to foreign countries.

Meanwhile, the anticipatory bail application moved by Mr. Shuhaib at the Kozhikode Principal Sessions court would be considered on Tuesday. He moved the court on December 21 after the CB squad carried out extensive searches in his house and office at Koduvally as part of the continuing investigation. Several computers, mobile phones and documents carrying the details of recruited trainers had been recovered from his office during the search.

CB sources said the cyber forensic examination report will be crucial for proceeding with further action against the suspects. According to them, efforts were on to recover the deleted social media communications from some of the seized computers and mobile phones.

It was on August 20 that the CB squad registered a case against Mr. Shuhaib, the Chief Executive officer of M.S. Solutions, after a four-day preliminary investigation into the incident. The First Information Report was registered on the basis of a set of digital evidence that reportedly confirmed that the trainers at the institute accessed the leaked question papers for their students’ online coaching.

The five-member squad led by Superintendent of Police K.K. Moideenkutty initiated a comprehensive probe into the incident based on the complaint filed by the Director General of Education to the State Police Chief about the suspected leak of SSLC English and Plus One Mathematics exam question papers on YouTube before exams.
