Telangana Health Secretary Christina Z. Chongthu and Hyderabad Police Commissioner C. V. Anand, on Tuesday (December 17) visited the hospital where the eight-year-old survivor of the stampede at Pushpa-2 premiere at Sandhya theatre on December 4 was admitted in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).

Addressing the media, Mr. Anand said: “The survivor has suffered brain damage due to lack of oxygen supply during the stampede and the doctors have said that it will be a long haul for the brain to develop the capacity to analyse signals.” He said that the child is currently on ventilator support and the treatment is likely to be prolonged.

Show case notice

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police issued a ‘show cause’ notice to the management of Sandhya 70 mm theatre questioning why cinematography licence issued to the theatre should not be cancelled for the lapses leading to the death of the woman in the stampede.

In the two-page notice dated December 12, the official pointed out several lapses, including absence of women security, no frisking booths for women, lack of systems to check tickets, leading to unauthorised entry, and overcrowding, display of large flexis outside the theatre without permissions, and improper security arrangements by the management, among others. The management has been asked to respond to the notice within 10 days.
