Listing healthcare institutions that the State government has established in Kalaburagi, Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil has said that Kalaburagi is emerging as a healthcare hub to offer quality healthcare services to the disadvantaged people of the region either free or at affordable cost.
Speaking at a function to inaugurate the new 371-bed facility of Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research (SJICSR) here on Sunday, Dr. Patil attributed the success chiefly to Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge who has been behind getting special status for the region under Article 371(J) of the Constitution.
“People of this region aspired to have a good hospital that can offer world-class heart care services. Now, their dream has come true with the establishment of a 371-bed Jayadeva Institute. It has become possible with the cooperation between Mr. Kharge and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah,” Dr. Patil said.
“The hospital can be comparable with the superior corporate hospitals in terms of infrastructure and quality services. It is a great contribution not just to Kalaburagi but also the entire Kalyana Karnataka region. It wouldn’t have been possible if we did not have Article 371(J) of the Constitution. We must be thankful to Mallikarjun Kharge, late N. Dharam Singh, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and all those who fought for it,” Dr. Patil said.
Pointing to a number of State-owned medical institutions operating in Kalaburagi, Dr. Patil said that people in and around Kalaburagi need no longer to go to Sollapur or Hyderabad in the neighbouring States to avail themselves of superior quality healthcare services as they are available in Kalaburagi itself.
“We have the Gulbarga Institute of Medical Sciences among the top eight medical colleges in the State. With 150 medical seats, the hospital is offering a variety of healthcare services to the poor free. The trauma centre that our government inaugurated recently is handling critical accident trauma cases. If you go to a private hospital, you will be charged ₹5 lakh for treatment and the same treatment is available for free at this centre,” Dr. Patil said.
“In addition, we are going to open a super-speciality hospital in Kalaburagi in the next three months. The Chief Minister has sanctioned a 200-bed Mother and Child Hospital which will be built at a cost of ₹92 crores. The work on the establishment of a state-of-the-art burns unit is already in progress. We are going to open a branch of Kidwai Cancer Institute in Kalaburagi at a cost of ₹72 crore,” he said.
“A branch of the Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health will be established in Kalaburagi at a cost of ₹92 crore. A 50-bed critical care unit will also come up beside the Trauma Centre,” Dr. Patil said and added that Kalaburagi will emerge as a health hub in the next two years to offer a variety of healthcare services of superior quality to the poor of the region.
Earlier, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated the Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research (SJICSR).
Mr. Mallikarjun Kharge, Planning and Statistics Minister D. Sudhakar, Small Scale Industry and Public Enterprises Minister Sharanabasappa Darshanapur, Kalyana Karnataka Region Development Board Chairman Ajay Singh and others were present.
