Former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Chinta Mohan criticised the coalition government in the State and NDA leadership for failing to address key issues concerning Andhra Pradesh, including the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) and Special Category Status.
Speaking at a press conference here on Saturday, Mr. Chinta Mohan said that the VSP was the rightful asset of Andhra Pradesh, highlighting the sacrifices made by farmers who gave up 25,000 acres of land for the project, now worth over ₹100 crore per acre. He condemned the lack of action despite two years of workers’ protests, and questioned the silence of the leaders, noting that stalwarts such as former Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao would not have allowed such neglect.
Reiterating the demand for Special Category Status, he criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu, and JSP president Pawan Kalyan for failing to protect the State’s interests. He expressed disappointment with Mr. Naidu’s speech at the recent meeting in Visakhapatnam and questioned why Mr. Pawan Kalyan prioritised unrelated matters over key State issues.
Mr. Chinta Mohan also criticised the lack of coordination between the TTD and police during ‘Vaikunta Ekadasi’ celebrations, calling for better planning and transparency, including the release of the report on laddu adulteration.
