Ten child labourers were rescued in the last year in Salem district and shop owners who employed the children were also booked.
In a release, Assistant Commissioner of Labour (Enforcement) L. Thirunandhan said that based on the instructions from the District Collector, the District Task Force, along with other departments, conducted joint inspections at shops in various places in the district every month. Inspections conducted in the year 2024, a total of ten child labourers including four employed at hotels, two in fish markets, three in engineering workshops, and one at a painting workshop were rescued, and cases was registered against the offenders through the police. Fines totalling ₹30,000 were also collected, Mr. Thirunandhan added.
