B-boy, a term used in hip hop dance, takes the stage as he pops and locks his shoulders before striking a pose in the Saarang 2025, organised by Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M), hip hop open style competition on Saturday in Chennai. The crowd gathered at the event erupted in cheers. Kids as young as seven took the stage to compete in the children category of the dance competition.
IIT-M was abuzz with energy as students from all over the State took part in the various competitions while some others indulged in the Indie Fest, an open mic stage where the people strummed a guitar to tunes and some other recited poetry. Frames and Fables’ is the theme of this year’s Saarang One of the highlights of the fest was also the Spotlight Lectures featuring the Bottle Radha movie crew.
Dinakaran Sivalingam, director of Bottle Radha said that addiction is a disease. “Unconditional love and patience are required to help those addicted to alcohol,” he said to a question on helping loved ones suffering from alcohol addiction.
Prabhanjana. D, a third year student of humanities and social sciences said, “The Spotlight lecture on Bottle Radha was very interesting. They spoke about their filmmaking process and day-to-day life and as celebrities it really humanised them to know that they too carry on with life just like us.”
At the World Fest, a stage showcasing international artistes, the audience were engaged in a sing along with artist duo Renny and Ballena from Spain. The EDM Night (electronic dance music) featuring Ritviz, and opened by DJ Frozt, got the students to dance the night away.
